Jon studied at Southampton Solent University graduating in 2008 with a 2:1 before passing the Legal Practice Course at Guildford College of Law in 2009 and has since trained in the areas of Criminal Law, Civil Litigation, Conveyancing and Family Law before completing his training contract in July 2011 and qualifying as a solicitor and practising in both criminal and family law.
Jon joined Shentons in March 2012 and specialises in helping clients through highly stressful and emotive situations in various areas of their family lives and is passionate in securing the best outcome for his clients and resolving difficult situations.
In his criminal cases Jon specialises in dealing with family and domestic incidents, and provides a unique service for those clients who need advice in both areas. He also has experience in a variety of other offences involving drugs, theft, violence and road traffic. Jon is also a police station and magistrates court accredited representative, enabling him to represent client at both the police station following either their arrest or an voluntary attendance and court. He regularly undertakes his own advocacy providing client with consistency throughout their case. At Shentons we believe that a consistent point of contact provides a client with the best service possible.
In his Family cases Jon handles a variety of different matters including issues relating to marriage and divorce, financial and children cases as well as protective measures including non-molestation and occupation orders. This includes substantial experience in dealing with publicly funded clients through the Legal Help and Legal Aid schemes.
Jon has experience working with vulnerable clients to assist and advise in achieving the best possible outcome. Jon also has experience in dealing in multi-jurisdictional cases where proceedings have extended to include Northern Ireland and the Caribbean (see cases to note below
Jon also deals with non-contentious matters, such as drafting and advising on change of name deeds, consent orders and separation and pre-nuptial agreements.
Outside of work Jon has a keen interest in martial arts and fitness and is a black belt in Mushin Jujitsu and traiing in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and regularly takes part in martial arts competitions as well as charity runs. Jon will always seek to challenge and push himself in everything he does, be it inside or outside a working environment.
Last year Jon Jon assisted in raising money for our charity of the year and completed the Great South Run, the Tough Mudder race (over one weekend) and had his legs waxed all for charity. Jon also arranged for himself and a number of Shentons staff to abseil the Spinnaker Tower raising over £3,000. This year he is again seeking to raise money for the firms’ charity of the year, Winchester Youth Counselling.

Re: A  – A multi-jurisdictional case where he successfully applied to have the children returned to England following their removal to Northern Ireland without the Father’s notice of permission. Jon also worked closely with colleagues in the criminal department on this matter when the Mother made an allegation of domestic violence against the Father, who was promptly acquitted of any charges following a trial.
Re: C  Representing a mother in children and financial proceedings to obtain a Residence Order and financial provisions for herself and her child following a number of alleged incidents of domestic violence perpetrated by the father
Re: S  Successfully obtaining Parental Responsibility for the Aunties of a child to enable them to assist in their nieces upbringing.
Re: A  Representing a Father in a lengthy case for contact with his son where the Mother was being very obstructive, and eventually obtaining a Child Arrangements Order for the child to reside with his Father due to the Mother’s continued obstruction and refusal to allow contact.
Re: M  Locating a client’s ex-husband following him ceasing making maintenance payments and disappearing to the Caribbean. Jon Successfully located the contact address, details and information of the assets of the ex-partner and obtained a settlement for client for her outstanding maintenance payments.
R V T  Working closely with a criminal barrister in a Crown Court trial and having the client successfully acquitted of criminal charges following an allegation of assault on her ex-partner.
